Subject vuln with resist
Specific vuln/resist (like pierce and holy) beat general vuln/resist (magic
weapon), so rakshasas are vulnerable to pierce and holy and resistant to
everything else. No middle ground here.
If you attack with a weapon that deal 50% damage of one type and 50% of
another, each damage is adjusted according to vulns/resists independently.
Say you attack a Rakshasa with a flaming dagger, and would normally deal 200
damage. Then this damage would be adjusted to 133 piercing + 75 fire = 208
damage total.

So all Vulns deal 133% damage, Resists take 75% damage. A generic is
completely overriden by an opposing specific.

What about gimps, where you have both magic and weapon vulnerabilities. Is
it any more than 133% damage taken from any/all sources? I don't suppose
it would ever be any less.

Subject resist/vulns
It may not be obvious, but vuln/resist weapon is not directly related to
weapons, but to pierce/bash/slash damage, while magic includes everything else
(fire/cold/...).

So vuln weapon and vuln magic can never both apply at the same time.
It also means that a spell dealing bash damage (e.g. unearth) is unaffected by
resist/vuln magic, while exotic weapons or unarmed attacks with fire/cold/..
damtype are unaffected by resist/vuln weapon. |
